NRMC: The Founders’ Vision
Principles, participation, historical stewardship and next-generation civic education.
What the NRMC stood for
The National Republican Minority Caucus sought to elevate the perspectives and economic participation of veterans, entrepreneurs and women, the focus proposed by founder Jermaine E. Whiteside. Its emphasis on opportunity, economic independence, public responsibility and civic participation should be evaluated alongside the original formation and campaign records.
An early draft NRMC flyer described a broader membership, listing several ethnic and religious minority communities alongside women and military veterans. According to Mr. Whiteside, that wording was a draft; he proposed narrowing the mission to veterans, women and entrepreneurs. A board record of formal adoption has not yet been located. The Republican creed as a set of principles
For this exhibit, the creed is presented as the founders’ understanding of principles that can be assessed across administrations and across time, not as loyalty to one individual, a particular candidacy or the party’s current leadership. D1 · Interpretive
Original statements and recordings will be transcribed, attributed and dated when source verification is complete. This synthesis is provisional and should not be represented as a formal creed adopted by the NRMC board without a board record.
Organizations in this record
Several separate organizations appear in this history. Sharing people or events does not make them the same entity.
- National Republican Minority Caucus (NRMC)
- The organization this archive documents. State organizational records are held in the archive.
- NRMC Action
- A separate political-committee entity with its own federal (FEC) filings. Not interchangeable with the NRMC.
- Political Junkie and MindVote News
- Independent political media that the founder reports preceded the NRMC. Its interviews and forums live in the Lady in Red collections.
- South Carolina African American Chamber of Commerce (SCAACC)
- Co-host of the September 23, 2015 meeting in North Charleston. An independent organization; its appearance here records history, not affiliation or endorsement.
- Greater Charleston Business Alliance
- Held the 2015 annual meeting co-hosted with SCAACC.
- E-Vision Project Development Corporation
- A project development company that, by the historian’s account, first sponsored the Chamber’s website.
- EWTECHNERD LLC
- A technology company that, by the historian’s account, later maintained the Chamber’s website at no charge, and that stewards this archive website.
- ONTHEMOVE Political Action Committee
- A separate committee set up by Stephen Gilchrist in the 2016 election cycle, according to the historian; not part of the NRMC or NRMC Action. Its name appears beside Reinvest America on podium signage in a 2016 event photograph. Committee filings not yet reviewed.
- IAM of America
- A separate, forward-looking research and policy initiative. Not the NRMC’s legal successor.
Stewardship and research
Jermaine E. Whiteside is documenting the organizational history, original media activity, financial sources and personal involvement with evidence suitable for scholarly and CV cross-referencing. IAM of America is a distinct research and policy-publication initiative; a historical relationship should not be read as an organizational merger or succession.
Historical addresses
The founder reports the NRMC operated at 2040 South Church Street and maintained a Washington, DC virtual office for approximately six months during the campaign period before discontinuing it because of cost. The exact lease dates and street-address details should be verified from agreements, cards and payment records. H1 · Historian testimony
